Forged Wheels


Aluminum Precision Products, Inc. (APP) began operations in 1965 servicing the aerospace and defense industries. From early on APP established itself as a leader in closed and open-die forgings in aluminum and titanium.

In the early 1990’s APP began producing forged wheel blanks for FORD, GM and CHRYSLER. By 1998 APP was producing finished 1-piece forged wheels and center discs (for 2-piece and 3-piece modular wheels) for both the automotive and motorcycle aftermarkets.

Today, APP has a range of one-piece wheels in sizes 17″, 18″, 19″, 20″, 21″, 22″ and 23″ for street applications and 18″, 19″, 20″, and 22″ flat face and motor sport applications. Center disc sizes for three-piece and two-piece modular wheels range from 15″ through 26″.

APP FORGED WHEELS are distributed throughout the world, helped by our associate company in Italy APPTECH SRL, which finishes wheels for the elite high-end automotive, and motorcycle markets. Our customers include AEZ Leichtmetal, Porsche, Mercedes AMG, Lamborghini, Pagani, Ferrari, and automotive tuners; Carlsson, Sportec, RUF, Strosek with applications for Mercedes Benz, BMW, Porsche, Audi, Ferrari, VW, and motorcycle wheels for Brembo, RC Components, and Performance Machine.

Why forged?

The forging process uses high pressure and temperature to change the non-directional grain structure of the cast aluminum starting material to the high integrity multi-directional grain structure of forgings. The aluminum remains solid throughout the process as the forging dies come together and change the shape of the round cast bar to the cylindrical shape of a wheel.

This forged blank is then placed in a custom built spin-forging machine to spin out and forge the rim section. The resulting radial grain direction places the highest material strength in the same direction as the operating loads. The result is “premium strength”.

Next, CNC lathes and milling machines are used to achieve the final configuration.

By making the wheel a forged one piece we have eliminated any possibility of porosity. The world’s leading aircraft manufacturers use one-piece forgings for superior performance in critical structural applications. App Forged Wheels uses the same process, combined with over 30 years experience manufacturing aerospace and commercial forged products, to produce aluminum wheels. The result is a high strength, lightweight wheel with no porosity and no welded joints.

Load ratings can range from as low as 1500 pounds for racing and sport car applications up to 2,500 pounds for light truck, SUV, off road application and higher for commercial vehicles. These load ratings are verified by a series of cornering fatigue, radial fatigue and impact tests.

APP Forged Wheels have the additional benefit, when requested, of a polished mirror finish. This can be achieved because of the high integrity of the metallic structure produced by the forging process. Every APP Forged Wheel is produced from the very highest quality 6061 T6 alloy.
